What are "The Most Desired Superpowers Around the U.S."? (transimpact.com)? According to TransImpact, in 23 states, "Teleportation, or the power to relocate without physically moving, is most desired." In contrast, "Healing ability, or the power to heal yourself and others, came out on top in 20 remaining states." The superpower I wanted didn't even make the list. People sleep on it or bury it in a graveyard of criticism. It's the power of improvement. Like all superhero sagas, my origin story would be a tearjerker. (That's where my similarity with superheroes would end.) However, here's where the origin story of my blog begins.
You have to learn just a bit about King Uzziah, the prophet Isaiah, and my own story of grief.
King Uzziah was the first cousin of the prophet Isaiah. According to the New World Encyclopedia, Isaiah's "ease of access to the court and Temple, together with sources that tell us that [he] was the cousin of King Uzziah, suggests he was of a family of high rank." He most likely experienced a life of some privilege and a reasonable degree of comfort before the death of King Uzziah. This would have been an excellent position to receive a vision from God, right? WRONG! On the contrary, Isaiah's powerful vision of God occurred during "political instability and a leadership vacuum" and a period of grief (christianwalls.com). If you want to know more about Isaiah, study him in the book of Isaiah.
As for me, I am a 53-year-old woman who has always wanted to write. I have not written for many reasons, but for now, let's say it was due to fear and comfort. I was married for 16 years, two months, and 28 days. During that time, my husband and I made a good living. Although we didn't always use our money wisely, we enjoyed stability and comfort. That would have been an excellent time for God to reveal things to me, right? WRONG again! Instead, my Uzziah experience began three years, eight months, and 21 days ago. On the night of Easter Sunday in April of 2020, my husband clenched his chest and fell to his knees. I called 911, and the paramedics performed lifesaving measures while my teenage daughter cried. I fell to the floor and prayed as my husband's heart failed, and he passed, altering the very core of me. This new situation acted as a catalyst for change, and the vision I received evolved as I grew.
True confession: Numbers are not my strong suit, so hopefully, I didn't use that "new" math to calculate anything. According to JamesClear.com, "On average, it takes more than two months before a new behavior becomes automatic—66 days to exact" (jamesclear.com/How Long Does it Take to Form a New Habit? [Backed by Science]). Isaiah had over 50 years of stability and privilege, and I had over 16 years of comfort and stability. Are you seeing what I see? Forget the difference between the numbers. I am looking at the similarity. Isaiah and I were granted more than 66 days to form a habit.
My pattern of living afforded me stability and prosperity, as it did Isaiah. In the year my husband died (three years, eight months, and twenty-one days ago), I had a vision based on my experiences with God and the people I encountered during my grieving. This blog came out of those experiences. I am writing to chronicle my emotional and spiritual growth.
If my blog has a theme, I would desire to possess the superpower of improvement in tandem with Wisdom. I've made many wrong decisions, including since my husband's passing. I prayed over my choices about relationships, money, and what to do with my time, yet I made decisions that negatively affected my life. Did things work out? Of course, they did, or I would not be typing this blog right now. But I might have avoided some situations if I had learned and applied some Lived Wisdom. Lived Wisdom encourages you to reflect on your experiences, good or bad. It encourages you to ask challenging questions, be objective enough to say, "I was wrong, and here's where I need to improve," and then do it. The superpower of improvement allows you to live and do better. I hope Lived Wisdom does that for you.
